    Dr. Norman Hummel is President and owner of Hummel & Co. Inc. Dr. Hummel (Norm) earned his Ph.D. degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Agronomy. At Penn State, Norm specialized in turfgrass nutrition and soils. He served on the faculties of Iowa State University (1982-1984) and Cornell University (1984-1995). Norm developed a passion for turfgrass management while working for several years at the Park Club in Buffalo, including a short stint as the Assistant Superintendent.

    Over the past several years, Norm has written over 100 articles and research publications on many aspects of turfgrass management. He is a frequent speaker on state, regional, and national turfgrass conference programs.

    From 1991 to 1993, Norm worked with the United States Golf Association, writing their greens construction specifications and the physical test methodology used for testing construction materials. He saw the procedures through the ASTM review process, and is still active in improving these and other test procedures used in the turfgrass industry. He was also on the committee recommending revisions incorporated into the 2004 guidelines.

    In the area of sports field management, Norm is the primary author of the ASTM Minimum Standards for the Maintenance of Cool Season Sports Fields, and has published a guide on Athletic Field Maintenance.

    Dr. Hummel (Norm) is a member of the Crop Science Society of Agronomy, the Soil Science Society of America, the American Society of Testing and Materials, the Sports Turf Managers Association of America, the New York State Turfgrass Association, the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council and the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation. He was the 1995 recipient of the NYS Turfgrass Association Citation of Merit Award. He serves on the PGA Tour Agronomic Advisory Committee. To keep things in perspective, Norm is a Volunteer Fire Fighter and Paramedic in the Trumansburg Fire Company.

    Terri Hummel is responsible for billing and bookkeeping, having been with Hummel & Co. Inc. since the companies inception. Terri has an Associates Degree from Erie Community College.

    Linda Judd joined Hummel & Co. Inc. in 1998 as a laboratory technician. Linda, who has a masters degree in Sustainable Systems (Agriculture) came to Hummel & Co. Inc. after nearly 25 years of working as a registered Medical Technologist in clinical microbiology. She brings a great deal of laboratory experience to our lab.

    Danielle Lynch-Jacobsen joined Hummel & Co. Inc earlier this year as a laboratory technician. Danielle has an A.S. in Environmental Science from Tompkins Cortland Community College and earned her B.S. degree in Animal Science from Cornell University last fall.

    Bonnie Sciarabba has been with Hummel & Co. Inc. since 1998 as an administrative assistant. Bonnie, who has a BS degree from SUNY Cortland, is responsible for many tasks, including data entry. She has a keen eye for quality control issues, and co-serves as the quality manager. Bonnie is likely to be the person who answers the phone when you call Hummel & Co. Inc., and can answer most of your questions regarding your testing needs.

    Debbie Sender has been a laboratory technician at Hummel & Co. since May of 1996. Debbie, who holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Horticulture at Cornell, worked several years in the Turfgrass Science Program at Cornell as a research technician.
